What plane is flying over me?
Open Flighto: the live map shows the planes around you, and a tap on one shows its airline, aircraft type, registration, altitude and speed, and where it's headed when its route is known. This part of Flighto needs no subscription.
How to find it
- Open Flighto. If you allow your location, the map starts where you are; your location stays on your phone.
- Find the plane above you on the map and tap it.
- The card shows what it is and, for flights with a known route, where it's going and roughly how long it has left.
Why the plane isn't where you hear it
Sound needs about 30 seconds to come down from a plane at 10,000 metres. In that time an airliner flies about seven kilometres, so look ahead of the noise: on the map, the plane is already further along.
What the map can and can't show
- Positions come from ADS-B, the signal most aircraft broadcast, picked up by a community network of volunteer receivers (adsb.lol). They update about every eight seconds, and Flighto moves the planes smoothly in between.
- Aircraft without ADS-B, or out of range of every receiver, don't appear. Coverage is thinner over the sea and in remote areas.
- Small aircraft and helicopters show up too when they broadcast; helicopters have their own symbol.
- There is no live map on this website. It's in the app.
Short answers
Do I need a subscription to see the planes above me?
No. The live map and the details of each plane work without one. Flighto Pro adds flight status by flight number, notifications and the Live Activity.
Can I see where a plane above me is going?
Yes, when its route is known: Flighto then shows the destination and draws the way there on the map.
